God's Values, Mission and Vision for St George's
In the past, our Church council spent several days thinking about our mission and ministry. During time away we first focused on God's values for his people and how he calls us to live. We then began the process of seeking God's vision for our church here in Washington and how we serve Jesus as we follow the values he teaches. Finally we considered the specific ways we can do that.
Part of our vision is to build onto the church and replace the hall that burned down in 1972.
Church Mission
To be, make and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.
How?
To increase in knowledge and love of God, be united in the gospel, live daily lives of worship and love each other, our community and God's world.
We drew our work together and produced a document to share so that others can understand why we do what we do.
The values and mission God gives us are summed up with the great commission and the great commandment.
Matthew 28v19
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 22 v36
36 ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’
37 Jesus replied: ‘“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’
